Deputy Editor
Deputy Editors will be an integral part of spreading the 1828 message – championing freedom – and pushing our work on economic and social liberalism. Working in a small team, the role will by nature be diverse, and the whole 1828 team often pitches in where needed. The role is suitable for a dynamic individual who is creative, full of ideas and keen to experiment. The ideal candidate will identify with 1828’s message, not be afraid to pitch in with new and fresh input of their own across the full scale of 1828’s output, and be excited about working at 1828 as we look to scale up our output.
Responsibilities vary, but will include:
- Editing articles and uploading them to the site
- Writing a weekly article for 1828
- Working with the external affairs team to ensure a consistent flow of editorial content
- Working with the wider 1828 team on developing exciting new themes and projects to enhance the 1828 brand
Preferred, but not essential:
- Experience in editing
- A proven track record in making the case for freedom
- A flair for writing
Please note that this is currently a voluntary role, with the potential for paid work as soon as feasible.

Communications & External Affairs Officer
The Communications & External Affairs Officer will be an integral part of spreading the 1828 message – championing freedom – and pushing our work on economic and social liberalism. The role is suitable for a dynamic individual who is creative, full of ideas and keen to experiment. The ideal candidate will identify with 1828’s message, not be afraid to pitch in with new and fresh input of their own across the full scale of 1828’s output, and be excited about working at 1828 as we look to scale up our output.
Responsibilities vary, but will include:
- Running and maintaining 1828’s social media accounts, on Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn & Facebook. You should have innovative ideas about how we can make better use of social media, and be willing to try new things with the support of the team.
- Helping build the 1828 brand in government, parliament, the business community and more
- Promoting 1828 events, articles, and other output
- Helping to produce the 1828 newsletter
- Writing a fortnightly article for the website
- Working with the external affairs team on outreach to government, private sector, parliament, academia and more
- Working with the wider 1828 team on developing exciting new themes and projects to enhance the 1828 brand
Preferred, but not essential:
- Experience running social media accounts other than your own
- A proven track record in making the case for freedom
- Some experience in digital media – video, photoshop, etc – is amazing, but not essential
- A flair for writing
